The role: Electronics Engineer

Join our Smart Infrastructure Division as an Electronics Engineer and help us re-imagine the world by finding solutions and making the world a smarter place for tomorrow.
This role will be based at our Rochester office, with a combination of office and home working.
Our business provides the power and energy industry with several increasingly complex metering and data acquisition solutions. You will provide proactive product support and training to customers and our project delivery and field installation/commissioning teams. Products may be hardware or software, in-house developed or from third-party suppliers. Systems we deal with include complex network solutions, Dynamic System Monitoring, Power Quality, and Generator performance monitoring.
Areas of responsibility
- Gain a wide understanding of how the electricity industry works and how our products fit into customer requirements.
- Providing internal training to Design Engineers / Field teams on our products and solutions
- Day-to-day interaction with internal and external clients to resolve problems ranging from simple to complex network, protocol, interfacing and data issues
- Creating and maintaining reference and training documents
- Assisting with configuring systems to ensure compliance with specifications – This will mostly be in the workshop but occasional site visits will be necessary so a full UK driving license is essential.
- Interfacing with clients at the pre-sales stage
- Occasionally conducting Factory Acceptance testing with customers present
- Fault finding on systems to determine hardware/configuration issues
Skills and experience:
- Degree or equivalent in an electronic engineering discipline or similar (such as ICT, industrial communications etc
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- A good understanding of Network products and systems (configuring switches, VLANs etc) with hands-on experience
- Strong capabilities with PC applications (standard windows and manufacturer specific) – Knowledge of the principles of Cyber Security would be advantageous
- Good understanding of electronic hardware and interfacing (RS232, RS485, microprocessors etc)
- Ability to assist with turning concepts into repeatable working solutions
- Experience working with protocols such as IEC104, Modbus, and DLMS would be an advantage
- Occasional working away from home may be required on an unscheduled basis so a UK driving license is essential
- Ability to build your own social connections and rapport with internal and external customers
