The Role: Software Developer and Systems Support

A Software Developer and Systems Support are needed to provide Software Application and IT expertise across all client services, to act as a technical escalation for all services and solutions relating to Applications Management. In this role, you will provide expert input to all new solution designs, software development, incidents, changes and ongoing problems. You will technically support and mentor less experienced Applications staff members, taking the technical lead on major service issues and project implementations, while adhering to technical strategy, processes and standards.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for participating in technical research to enable continuing innovation.
You will ensure that all software solutions and related procedures adhere to organizational values, security compliance and relevant standards.
To comply with the government’s Baseline Security Personnel Standard Verification process, this job is subject to completion of a Disclosure Scotland check.
Responsibilities:
- Provide key support to the company’s digital transformation program through the development and implementation of software solutions for both internal and external business clients;
- To provide key support and assistance for fit for purpose software solutions for both internal and external clients including technical support during project design phases;
- Undertake software solution development, whilst adhering to secure application development principles and version control management. Also undertaking system unit testing along with creating and maintaining supporting software solution design documentation;
- Test and maintain software products to ensure strong functionality and optimization;
- To provide implementation and post-implementation support of software solutions in a BAU environment;
- Regular liaison with the infrastructure teams to ensure developed software is able to operate and perform on the resident infrastructure;
- Support project managers to deliver the technical tasks and resolve any issues relating to software solutions;
- Recommend improvements to existing software programs as necessary and support continuous system improvement initiatives;
- Ensure incidents that are related to software solutions and systems managed by the Development team are resolved within agreed SLA’s;
- Maintain knowledge of supported applications to develop, maintain and provide ongoing support of both 3rd party, back office and online automated solutions;
- Out-of-hours support as per occasional standby arrangements and occasional planned work;
- To ensure that any performance management tools and internal service records are completed accurately and on time;
- To complete all tasks accurately and on time in accordance with specific job description;
- To complete general administration tasks as required including providing cover for other roles within the team;
- To protect all client and confidential information in accordance with security policy;
- Familiarity with and use of ISO 20000 standards.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Degree or Equivalent Professional Technical Qualifications.
- 5 years’ experience within an established IT-focused organization.
- Experience and understanding of both ‘Client sided/front-end Development’ and ‘Server Sided/back-end Development’ necessary;
- Advanced knowledge and skills in ASP.NET framework and C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, GIT, SQL & MYSQL are all essential;
- Knowledge and experience in developing and supporting RESTful API protocols are essential;
- Experience in developing and hosting applications on a Windows-based infrastructure is essential;
- Flexible and willing to accept changes to requirement priorities as necessary;
- Well developed and proven skill in maintaining and troubleshooting technical issues and solutions;
- Experience in working to Secure Development Principles would be beneficial;
- Knowledge and experience of development in PHP would also be useful, but not essential.
