The Role: Senior Commercial Officer / Associate Commercial Manager

Contract: Perm

Salary: £60,000-£70,000

Location: London (Hybrid)

As a Commercial Manager, you will play a key supporting role in providing commercial services, devising, supporting and implementing of a strategy to meet the needs of our fast-paced business and customers. This role supports all of our public sector customers across Central and Local Government and other public service sectors

The focus of your role will be to facilitate the transaction of good business throughout the full sales lifecycle. You will support proposals, contracts and changes, support customer and supplier discussion/negotiations and own the management of contractual and commercial matters.

The role expects you to support account/business teams on proposals, pricing, contractual items, negotiations and dealing with contract management issues. You’ll use your knowledge and experience to identify commercial risks and opportunities and devise appropriate mitigations. You’ll coach and/or engage with other teams to enhance the commercial solution.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • supporting commercial aspects of bids, helping to build a commercial offer that balances the need to maximise the business’s competitive position whilst achieving an acceptable contractual outcome
  • improving commercial consistency and performance with key customers
  • formulating, negotiating and obtaining approval for contractual terms and conditions, work orders and pricing
  • supporting or leading standard contract negotiations with customers and suppliers, with a view to flowing down/up terms and risk between all parties
  • supporting the development and implementation of the pricing policy and ensuring business adherence through core processes
  • supporting the development and implementation of the IP strategy including protection and exploitation of the company’s IPR in commercial transactions
  • establishing key customer and supplier relationships at a contractual level
  • developing, rationalising, implementing and owning the processes required to make the commercial function more efficient and effective

What you’ll need:

  • Previous commercial or subcontract experience in consultancy and/or public sector
  • Good working knowledge of legal issues, profitability requirements, contract structure, terms and conditions, sub-contract considerations, funding and payment plans.
  • The ability to formulate (with support) the full range of agreements with customers, and partners, including teaming agreements, confidentiality agreements, and licences of intellectual property and responsible for drafting contracts/agreements and providing guidance on drafting techniques to their team.
  • An astute analytical ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities, and the ability to devise a flexible range of mitigations.
  • Knowledge of contract management issues.
  • Experience in negotiating, onboarding and managing suppliers.
  • The ability to forge good working relationships and communication with peers, other colleagues, and internal and external customers
  • Able to successfully work with clients and internal stakeholders
